Wolf Creek Thunder Drum
So one day, we have this visitor and he notices how the yearling's would jump &
play on an overturned stock tank and when they did it sounded like thunder. It
was hard convincing people it wasn't thunder even on a clear, sunny day.
So what does this visitor do? He comes back with paintbrush in hand and turns
the dull looking tank into one of the biggest drums we have ever seen.
So now every time they jump on it they are playing the
Wolf Creek Thunder Drum
What talented wolves we have!
Kosmik Ray a former New York Artist donated his time
to make this drum come alive!
Thanks Kosmik for your genius idea.

Part of the Press Release for Native American Weekend

A giant ceremonial-style drum measuring nearly 8 ft. across with a massive 24 ft.
circumference will help ring in the Habitat’s 4th annual Native American Weekend at the Wolf
Creek Habitat in Brookville, Indiana, which is slated for October 11th and 12th. When the
donated project is completed, the drum will be installed within the habitat’s wolf enclosure
for the benefit of the naturally playful and curious animals. Wolves that walk across and jump
on the drum head will be able to create low frequency harmonics which closely resemble the
sound of thunder, thanks to its all-metal construction.

“This just might be the world’s largest drum of its kind, and the only one made for
wolves,” said Habitat co-director Kathy Baudendistel, who owns the unique non-profit
sanctuary with her husband Terry. “We’ll have to do some research when its done. I know the
wolves will love it, as it’s strong enough for a person to dance on.  I imagine lots of young
school kids will get a kick out of seeing and hearing the wolves make music on it. Wolves
love to play as much as any domesticated dog, and this drum is a natural accompaniment to
their group singing which is rated tops in the animal kingdom.”
